Saturday Arts Social: 'Whakapapa' dance workshop

Join the Jolt Dance company team for a dynamic workshop that uses music and movement to foster connection, communication, and creativity — creating a space grounded in freedom, exploration, and joy. Designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for people with a wide range of abilities and support needs, this workshop supports imaginative expression through:

  • Developing body awareness, focus, connection, and musicality
  • Encouraging engagement through non-verbal communication, touch, and play
  • Exploring music as both landscape and language
  • Nurturing creativity by expressing and shaping individual ideas

About your facilitator: Jolt Dance Company is an inclusive Christchurch-based organisation that has been leading the way in innovative, disability-led dance practice since 2001. Their work creates meaningful opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to train, perform, and take on leadership roles — challenging traditional perceptions of dance while celebrating each individual’s creative voice.

About Saturday Arts Social: Saturday Arts Social is a free multi-arts programme and morning tea for our 60+ community every Saturday morning, including concerts, art workshops, dance/movement classes and artist talks. To find out more, visit www.teatamira.nz/events/saturday-arts-social
