This is a 2-day, hands-on exploration of experimentation, material play and creative courage. Says Odelle, “In my own practice, I constantly move works between my clay, wood, steel and painting studios – rearranging them, testing new relationships and discovering unexpected connections. Meaning shifts when context shifts.”
This course invites you to work the same way. You will:

Mixed media has long been used by artists to break away from rigid approaches to art-making – notably by early Cubists such as Picasso and Braque, who introduced collage into their work. Today, it remains a powerful way to explore ideas freely, combining materials without strict rules or hierarchy.

This is a process-led course, accessible to all levels. You do not need drawing or painting skills to participate. Working across multiple stations and a series of guided exercises, you’ll be encouraged to move freely between processes – to try something, shift it, interrupt it and, if it’s not working … as I often say, “just do another one.”

Making is rarely linear. It’s a process of trying, failing, adjusting and trying again until there’s that small spark of recognition: yes, that’s it. The moment something connects. You’ll explore how meaning changes when materials are placed beside each other, how context alters interpretation, and how unexpected combinations can unlock new ideas. We’ll focus on instinct over over-thinking, effort over preciousness, and momentum over perfection. Leave the rule book at home!
